Although most dogs experience improved digestion thanks to the fresh meals from Dog Chef, some dogs may temporarily experience diarrhea or vomiting.
Try switching recipes
Dog Chef offers 7 different recipes. Some dogs may develop a sensitivity to a specific recipe or protein source, especially dogs with gastrointestinal sensitivities or allergies.
In that case, switching to another recipe may help.
The cause is not always related to the food
Digestive issues can also be caused by something your dog ate or drank during a walk.
A virus, parasite, or other infection may also cause diarrhea or vomiting.
Could your dog have swallowed something outside, been in contact with a sick dog, or be showing other symptoms? If so, please contact your veterinarian.
What can you do in case of temporary diarrhea?
We recommend temporarily adding well-cooked white rice to your dog’s meals (about twice the normal cooking time).
It may also help to gently warm the meals before serving.
Also check whether the meals have been stored correctly
After delivery, the fresh meals can be stored for:
• 7 days in the refrigerator;
• 10 months in the freezer.
For proper thawing, we recommend placing the meal in the refrigerator approximately 24 hours before serving.
Please also consult our article with recommendations for storing fresh meals.
When should you contact your veterinarian?
Please consult your veterinarian if your dog also shows other symptoms such as:
• blood in the stool;
• repeated vomiting;
• refusing to eat;
• lethargy;
• fever.
In such cases, it is likely that another cause is responsible rather than the food itself.
